Income tax department caught fake tax refund cases of more than 700 crores

New Delhi. After the completion of the process of filling the Income Tax Return, the documents are now being investigated in depth. In the investigation so far, the Income Tax Department (Income Tax Department) has caught cases of fake Income Tax Refunds Over Rs 700 Crore of more than Rs 700 crore, which has demanded refunds through wrong bills.

Investigation of cases to refund of more than 20000
The Income Tax Department has now increased the scope of investigation on the basis of fake claims which were revealed during the initial investigation process. Currently, the department is investigating cases to refunds of more than 20000. To get the refund, medical bills and donations received at the time of returns were examined.

It was revealed that a wide manipulation has been done in the receipts to the bill and the amount donated. Many such institutions have been shown donations, which are not eligible or the donation amount is not lost to their account.

All cases are depths in depth before issuing refund
Sources say that the department will investigate all matters in depth before issuing the refund. This time more than three crore returns have been filed when the last date of filing income tax returns (about five days). During the returns filled in the last days, it is most apprehensive that the wrong way will be claimed to get refunds.

Rigging is done to get refund
All false claims are made to get refunds while filing income tax returns. The Income Tax Department has caught a lot of fake documents in cases of claims to the financial year 2023-24 and 2024-25. In July, the Income Tax Department raided more than 150 places across the country, as income tax exemption has been made by showing false deduction in different items like political donations, tuition fees and medical expenses. Several important documents were seized along with digital records in the raid. Those who took action on the Income Tax Department included chartered accountants and third party people filing income tax returns.

Network active across the country
The Income Tax Department closely examines the filled returns. Along with the use of AI tools, information and other evidence are collected from the ground level and third party. The department found in July that people are active across the country who are stealing tax by filing income tax returns in a fake way. Especially such returns are filled from different cities of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh in which wrong claims of tax exemption are made.

Returns filled by creating fake email ID
During the separate investigations of the previous, the Income Tax Department found that those involved in filing income tax returns fake e-mail IDs and filled the returns in several (bulk) simultaneously. The email ID was deleted after filing the returns. In such a situation, the notices sent by the department often remain without reading, which hindered the investigation.
