
The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a copyright infringement case filed against him over the composition of the song Veera Raja Veera from the 2023 Tamil film Ponniyin Selvan 2 (PS2). The Delhi High Court on Wednesday allowed an appeal by musician AR Rahman and set aside an order that had described the song from his film Ponniyin Selvan 2 as a copy of the Dagar brothers composition Shiva Stuti. Delhi HC Order A division bench of Justices C. Hari Shankar and Om Prakash Shukla passed the order on Rahmans appeal. The court said the appeal is allowed and the single judges order is set aside in principle. The High Court clarified that it did not express any opinion on the copyright infringement aspect. The court said We have allowed the appeal. We have prepared a concurrent opinion. We have set aside the single judges order in principle. Copyright Infringement Lawsuit However the court clarified that it had not considered the aspect of infringement. Padma Shri awardee Indian classical singer Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar had filed a copyright infringement suit before a single judge alleging that the song was copied from a Shiva Stuti song composed by his father Nasir Faiyazuddin Dagar and uncle Zaheeruddin Dagar. Lyrics Are Different but Rhythm and Beat Are the Same Faiyaz Wasifuddin Dagar had alleged that Veera Raja Veera has different lyrics but its rhythm beat and musical structure is similar to Shiv Stuti which was performed globally by the Junior Dagar brothers and included in albums released by Pan Records.
