WhatsApp is down for thousands of users in the UK following an issue with Meta that has also impacted Facebook and Instagram. Sixty-six percent of the most reported problems linked to WhatsApp related to sending messages, according to Down Detector, which monitors technical glitches online.
It said 19% of the problems reported to its service by UK users related to WhatsApp's website and 15% to the messaging service's app. Down Detector figures show that just after 3pm on Wednesday there was a total of 305 reported failures against a usual baseline of five.
Problems connecting to Facebook's server, challenges logging in and difficulties with the social media platform's app were also reported.
Reports of problems on Facebook peaked at 1,351 at 3.17pm today, with 66% complaining of issues connecting to its server, according to Down Detector.
Users of Instagram have also experienced difficulties today, with 289 recorded issues, of which 89% were linked to its app, Down Detector reported. Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram are owned by Meta.
