Aadhaar-Linked Mobile Number MandataTaking a big step, the Election Commission has made a mobile number linked to Aadhaar for all services to the online voter list. Now if any voter wants to add, remove or make any change in it, then he will have to provide a mobile number linked to Aadhaar. This decision was taken about a month ago and now it has been fully implemented. Earlier, if a person used to make any kind of change in his voter list, he could apply without Aadhaar-Link mobile number, but now this process has changed completely.
Decision to change after allegations of vote theft
This decision has come at a time when there are allegations of voter deulsion in Karnataka. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has alleged that voters are being removed from the voter list in Karnataka in a systematically, and a ‘third force’ is working behind it. He also claimed that 6018 voters have been removed from Aland assembly constituency in Karnataka. Rahul Gandhi called it an organized conspiracy and accused the Election Commission of voting theft.
Election Commission gave clarification regarding canceled application
After these allegations, the Election Commission gave its clarification and Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V. Ambukumar said that in December 2022, online applications were received to remove 6018 voters from Aland Assembly. All these applications were examined and found that 5994 of these applications were incorrect. Only 24 applications were found correct and hence those wrong applications were canceled. The Election Commission also filed an FIR to investigate the matter and said that no collective voter has been deleted.
Further process and Election Commission step
The Election Commission has taken this step to maintain transparency and make the election process even more safe. Along with this, now the Election Commission has started a strict monitoring and investigation process to ensure that no such problems arise in future. Along with this, this step is a sign that the Commission is trying to further strengthen its functioning so that any kind of disturbance or fraud can be avoided in the election process.
Linking mobile number to Aadhaar is a big step of the Election Commission. This will not only increase the transparency of the voter list, but will also provide more protection in the election process. At the same time, after the dispute in Karnataka, the Commission has given its clarification and rejected the allegations. Now it has to be seen how much this new decision applies with success in the coming elections.
