
Ahmedabad, 04 October (Read News). Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said here on Saturday that financial assets worth Rs 1.84 lakh crore are lying without claims. Officials should ensure that these assets reach their real owners.
The Union Finance Minister said this in his address on the occasion of the inauguration of the nationwide awareness campaign ‘Your Capital Your Dights’ on unclaimed properties in the financial sector in Gandhinagar. Sitharaman launched your capital, your capital, your rights campaign from Gandhinagar in the presence of State Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai and senior officials of banks and Ministry of Finance.
Finance Minister Sitharaman said that banks and regulators have financial assets worth Rs 1.84 lakh crore in the form of bank deposits, insurance, provident funds or shares without claims. Sitharaman said, I want to ask everyone here to become ambassadors of this campaign. Please contact your contacts and ask if they have any unclaimed financial property.
He urged the officials to work on three ‘A’-awareness, access and action- to bring these unclaimed properties to their real owners during this 3-month campaign. He said that to register on the portal and guide them to claim their assets. According to the Department of Financial Services, Rs 1,84,000 crore is lying there. They are safe.
Finance Minister said, I can assure you that it is completely safe. Whenever you want, come with the appropriate papers. You will be given money. The government is its patron. This can be done through the bank’s or SEBI. This can happen through another agency, but it is in safe custody.
