Friends, if you own a four-wheeler and frequently travel between cities, this news is extremely important for you. Starting November 15, 2025, the Government of India has implemented a new rule to simplify toll payments for motorists. Vehicles without a Fastag or with an invalid/inactive Fastag can now pay toll fees via UPI, without any extra charges. Let's learn the full details.
1. UPI Payment Options
Motorists who don't have a valid Fastag can now pay tolls via UPI. This is a significant change from the previous rule; there will no longer be a double charge.
2. Reduced Fees
Under the new system:
Payments made via UPI will be 1.25 times the normal toll fee.
Cash payments without a Fastag will still be charged double.
Example:
Normal toll using FASTag: ₹100
Cash payment without FASTag: ₹200
Payment via UPI without FASTag: ₹125
This new framework provides relief to motorists and also promotes digital payments.
3. Objective of the Rule
The government has amended this rule to:
Encourage digital payments at toll plazas.
Reduce cash transactions on national highways.
Ensure transparent and convenient toll collection for all travelers.
4. FASTag Annual Pass
In addition, the government has also introduced the FASTag Annual Pass:
Private vehicle owners can make an advance payment of ₹3,000 to activate the pass linked to their FASTag.
This pass allows for one year or 200 toll plaza trips.
Crossing toll plazas with an annual pass costs less than the normal FASTag fee, providing savings to frequent travellers.
Effective from November 15, 2025, this new system will simplify toll payments, promote cashless transactions, and benefit regular highway travellers.
