Yes, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) has made a new rule, under which now the toll payments from UPI will have to pay only 1.25 times the toll, not doubling as before. This news is no less than a gift for those who travel on the highway daily. This new rule will be applicable from 15 November 2025.

New account of toll

Now understand the new formula of toll. Suppose, the normal Fastag charge on a toll plaza is ₹ 100. Earlier, if you used to drive without a fastag, then you had to pay ₹ 200 i.e. double charge. But now, if you pay from UPI, then you have to pay only ₹ 125. This change is a big relief for those drivers who were not able to use Fastag due to any technical problem or other reason. This step of the government is towards further strengthening the fastag system, so that your highway journey becomes easier.

Still strict on cash payment

Keep in mind, if you pay cash on the toll, you still have to pay double charge (2x). The government aims to reduce cash transactions at toll plazas and promote digital payments like UPI. This step is in the right direction, because digital payment not only saves time, but also reduces the problem of traffic jam on the toll plaza.

Get out for free if the system fails

If you have a valid fastag, but the system of toll plaza is unable to read it, then you will be allowed to cross the toll without payment. These rules have been brought to make toll operators accountable. This will increase the trust of Fastag users and remove small technical problems.
