ODI World Cup 2027: BCCI and chief selector Ajit Agarkar has started a new era in Indian cricket by removing Rohit Sharma from ODI captaincy. This decision is not only a change in captaincy, but also raises serious questions on Rohit and Virat Kohli’s possibilities of playing in the 2027 World Cup. Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar supported this decision and said that it is very important to prepare a young captain for the future.
Decision taken due to increasing age?
The main reason behind this decision of Agarkar and BCCI is said to be the growing age of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, their match exercise. Since both veteran players have retired from Test and T20 International matches, now they have only ODI format left.

If his place in the team is not confirmed, then this decision was taken to prepare Shubman Gill.
Be ready for bad news
Despite BCCI’s strict instructions, Rohit and Kohli are reluctant to play domestic cricket (Vijay Hazare Trophy). Gavaskar said that if he has to stay in the ODI format, then he needs to practice further. Gavaskar clearly stated that the team always comes first, and Rohit Sharma will agree with this decision because the team has to think two years ahead. He said that if a player has not taken a decision and cannot say that he will be ready for the next two years, then he should be ready for bad news.
