New York Mayoral Election: In America, campaigning is in full swing for the mayor’s election of New York City. Meanwhile, Democratic Party candidate Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday visited two Hindu temples in the Flushing area of Queens. After offering prayers here, he said that he was proud of his Hindu heritage. If he wins, he will become the first Indian-American and first Muslim mayor of New York City.
After Zohran Mamdani’s visit, the discussion about Sanatan Factor has intensified in New York. Actually, he comes from a Muslim family. Although his mother and famous Hindi film director Mira Nair is Hindu, Mamdani has till now been presenting his Muslim identity. In such a situation, suddenly going to a Hindu temple and offering prayers is being considered as an election strategy, so that he can also get the votes of the Hindu community living in New York.
Proud of Hindu heritage: Zohran Mamdani
Mamdani explained that her mother, renowned filmmaker Mira Nair, is Hindu and that she was raised among the Hindu religion, its traditions and values such as service. His father Mahmood Mamdani is a well-known Ugandan professor. He said, “I am Muslim, but I have known and understood the stories, traditions and customs of Hinduism since my childhood. I am proud of my heritage and want to share it with everyone.”
Mamdani also said in his election promises that he would improve communication in different languages in the city, such as Hindi, Nepali, Gujarati, Punjabi and Tibetan. They will also provide more support and funding to non-profit organizations. Apart from this, he has promised that he will oppose the raids and intimidation actions of America’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
PM Modi was called a dictator
He said that many people of New York are living in an environment of fear because they have seen how ICE treats people harshly. He wants to be a mayor who stands up for the people of New York, not working with leaders like Donald Trump.
However, Mamdani had made objectionable statements against India and the Prime Minister in the initial stages of his election campaign. He had called Prime Minister Modi a dictator and responsible for the Godhra incident in Gujarat in 2002.
