In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan on Tuesday Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) carried out a deadly attack, in which 11 paramilitary personnel were killed. This attack took place in Kurram district, which is very close to the Afghan border. The terrorists first detonated the roadside explosive (IED) and immediately after that opened fire.

According to security sources, the terrorists attacked with great strategy. First they targeted the military convoy with a roadside bomb, due to which many vehicles were damaged. After this, the attackers sitting in ambush started firing indiscriminately. Nine soldiers and two officers were killed on the spot, while many others are said to be injured.

Army surrounded the area

After the attack, the injured soldiers have been admitted to the nearby military hospital. Immediately after the incident, security forces surrounded the entire area and started the search operation. So far there has been no news of any attacker being caught, but the army has issued high alert in the area.

TTP took responsibility

Pakistani Taliban organization TTP has taken responsibility for this attack. In its statement sent to Reuters, TTP claimed that the attack was carried out by its fighters on a convoy of paramilitary forces. This organization has increased both the frequency and intensity of its attacks in the last few months.

Pakistan’s old challenge

The Pakistan government has long been accusing TTP of plotting attacks from Afghan soil. Islamabad says that terrorists prepare attacks from their bases across the Afghan border. However, Kabul has vehemently denied these allegations and said that Afghan land is not being used against any other country.

Kurram: A bastion of terror and instability

Kurram district, where the attack took place, has been the epicenter of terrorism and communal violence for decades. Many major attacks have taken place here before. Security analysts say that this area remains a constant challenge for the Pakistani Army and is also a safe haven for terrorists.

another bloodbath

This incident is not an isolated incident. In September, 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed in a similar attack in South Waziristan. TTP had also taken responsibility for that attack. Such continuous attacks are raising serious questions on the internal security of Pakistan.

Threat to Pakistan’s security

Experts believe that this attack has once again exposed the growing threat of terrorism on the north-western border of Pakistan. After the return of Taliban rule in Afghanistan, the morale of TTP has increased further. Now the question is whether Pakistan will be able to stop this web of terror spreading within its borders or the situation will worsen.
