Kathmandu. The Judicial Commission formed to investigate the incidents of September 8 and 9 last month made it clear today that the government does not need to wait for its report to take action against the accused. The commission, constituted under the leadership of retired Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki, clarified that the government can also take action like arrest against any person involved in criminal acts without waiting for the findings of the commission.
This statement of the Judicial Inquiry Commission has come at a time when instead of taking action on the FIR filed against former Prime Minister KP Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the police has sent it to the Commission. Retired Justice Gauri Bahadur Karki said that in response to a statement of the Home Ministry on September 29, it has already been said that there is no need to wait for the report of the Judicial Commission in any criminal case.
He said the mandate of the commission is to collect information or complaints to physical and human losses, analyze them and provide recommendations for necessary action. The Home Ministry had earlier said that issues within the commission’s jurisdiction would not be handled through the regular mechanism until the work of the commission is completed. Justice Karki says that still, action can be taken against illegal activities under the existing laws.
