UPI to Get Major Update: Manage and View All AutoPay Mandates from Any App by December 2025

A big change is coming to India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system. The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced a new UPI AutoPay framework that will allow users to view, manage, and even transfer their active AutoPay mandates from any UPI app — whether it’s Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or any other platform. The new feature will be rolled out by December 31, 2025, giving users greater control and transparency over their automatic digital payments.

One Dashboard for All AutoPay Subscriptions

Under the new system, users will be able to see all their recurring UPI payments — such as OTT subscriptions, phone bills, utility charges, and EMI payments — in one place, regardless of which app was originally used to set them up.

For instance, if some AutoPay mandates are active on Google Pay and others on PhonePe, users will no longer need to switch between apps. Instead, they can access and manage all mandates directly from any UPI app of their choice.

This update brings much-needed simplicity to digital financial management, making UPI even more convenient for millions of users across India.

Mandates Can Be Transferred Between Apps

One of the most anticipated features of this new system is portability. Users will be able to transfer their AutoPay mandates from one UPI app to another without having to cancel or recreate them.

For example, if a user wishes to stop using one app and move to another for better usability or performance, all active AutoPay instructions can be seamlessly migrated. This move is expected to enhance flexibility and reduce dependency on a single app.

However, NPCI has made it clear that apps cannot use cashback, offers, or notifications to lure users into transferring mandates. Any such transfer must be done voluntarily by the user, ensuring transparency and ethical digital practices across the ecosystem.

NPCI’s Directions to Banks and Apps

NPCI’s circular, issued on October 7, 2025, directs all banks and UPI apps to implement this system by December 31, 2025.

It has instructed every UPI application to include a new section named either “Manage Bank Accounts” or “UPI AutoPay”, where users can see their active mandates and take necessary actions such as pausing, canceling, or transferring them.

This initiative aligns with NPCI’s vision to make UPI a more user-centric and transparent payment system. With this upgrade, customers will have a single-window view of all automatic payments, improving security and convenience at the same time.

Face and Biometric Authentication for Extra Security

In a separate circular, NPCI also announced an additional security upgrade for UPI users. Soon, users will be able to set or reset their UPI PIN using face recognition or biometric verification.

This on-device biometric authentication will initially be available for transactions up to ₹5,000, and the limit may be increased later depending on system performance and adoption.

The move aims to strengthen user protection and reduce the risk of unauthorized access or PIN fraud, ensuring safer and faster transactions.

What This Means for Users

The upcoming changes will significantly simplify how users monitor their automatic payments. Instead of juggling multiple apps to track subscriptions and bill payments, UPI users will soon get a unified view and complete control.

Digital payment experts say this step reflects the maturity of India’s fintech ecosystem and could further boost confidence in recurring UPI transactions.

With NPCI’s December 2025 deadline set, banks and UPI providers have less than three months to roll out these updates. Once implemented, UPI users can expect a more seamless, secure, and transparent digital payment experience.
