A two-day-old donkey foal venturing away from its mother for the first time has captured hearts across social media as viewers witnessed the adorable moment.

The young animal was exploring its boundaries by galloping through pastures, testing how far it could roam whilst keeping mum in sight.

The clip has garnered tens of thousands of likes and more than 100 comments from users who described the footage as simply "too cute" to ignore.

The heartwarming video was shared on @thatfarmerbarbie's TikTok account, with the farm worker posting the delightful scenes of the baby animal.

Countless viewers were enchanted by what they called a precious first experience for the donkey, with the watchful mother visible nearby in the background.

The post is captioned: "POV you're a two day baby donkey playing in the pasture for the first time."

The footage revealed the foal frolicking around the meadow whilst ensuring it remained close to its protective parent.

@thatfarmerbarbie added: "A baby donkey's first time in pasture is soooo fun to witness. Learning to run and testing mom's comfort levels."

Social media users were enchanted by the scenes, with one commenting: "I think this baby donkey and his momma are my favourite donkeys on donkey TikTok."

Others commended the mother donkey, noting how healthy she appeared despite having given birth just 48 hours earlier.

One person wrote: "The mom looks incredible!" Another added: "Oh my goodness that's absolutely adorable and so sweet."

One user commented: "Love the video. The baby donkey is so cute and full of energy. I hope mommy has enough energy to keep up with her baby."

The TikTok content creator observed that the mother seemed a bit anxious watching her new foal frolicking about the field so early in its life.

They noted: "Mom's a little nervy. She's like, 'Get back, I gotta take care of you!" Despite @thatfarmerbarbie's belief that the mother donkey was getting "annoyed" by the foal's antics, she did not prevent the animal from exploring.

According to World Horse Welfare, the initial days for a new foal are critical, emphasising the need for quick socialisation.

The site advises: "It's so important for foals to have good experiences from the start, so we begin with lots of scratches, making friends with them and establishing that being around people is a positive thing.

"I like to introduce them to a headcollar early on too - we don't lead from the headcollar when they're that young, but getting them used to having a headcollar on and off is really helpful.

"We introduce them to the idea of having their legs and feet handled as soon as possible too, making sure to keep it a positive experience. There are lots of scratches involved! It's essential that they learn how to pick their feet up early, so that they can be seen by our farrier."
