The two once shared a hostel in Jamshedpur during their college days. Mahabharat actor Gufi Paintal once recalled his engineering days fondly remembering Ratan Tata as a true gentleman who had just returned from his training in the US. Tata lived in Room No. 21 where he frequently engaged in insightful conversations with his fellow students. Gufi Paintal once recalled a memorable encounter with Tata on Linking Road in Bandra. When Ratan Tata offered him a ride home he humbly declined saying “No Ratan thank you so much. I’m just crossing the road; my car is on the other side.” This brief moment left a profound impact on him. Reflecting on their friendship Paintal shared how Ratan Tata used to take his friends on picnics in his stunning silver convertible Plymouth. Gufi Paintal who passed away in 2023 at the age of 79 due to age-related ailments became a household name for his iconic portrayal of Shakuni Mama in Mahabharat. He also featured in several television shows and films including Bahadur Shah Zafar and Rafoo Chakkar.
