Homebound is one of those films that you'd be missing out on if you don't watch it at least once. The Karan Johar-produced indie film made surprisingly less buzz upon its theatrical release, and Johar has finally spoken up about it.

The film should have garnered ample attention, but surprisingly went under the radar. This led to many believing that the producer won't be making another film like Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jehtwa's.

Karan Johar Releases A statement About Homebound's Underwhelming Box Office Response

Karan Johar had previously admitted that in every film he makes, he benefits with a certain profit. As such, Homebound's mediocre success made the possibility of another such film mellow. This led everyone to believe that the director-producer won't even make another film like Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jehtwa's.

“I humbly request my friends and members in the media to not misconstrue or misquote my comments on our film Homebound… it was an academic chat on the business of our movies… I am and will always be exceptionally proud of Homebound… it will always shine in our repertoire of films as one of our finest and most sensitively performed and directed films,” said Johar.

Johar came clean in his Instagram story (@karanjohar), clarifying that he is immensely proud of Homebound, no matter how it has performed so far. Richa Chadha and other members of the film industry had spoken in favour and against Johar with regard to the situation.

This Is Not The End For Karan Johar & Homebound

Karan Johar went on to say that while Homebound hasn’t found the kind of fame that he had hoped for, he hasn’t seen it as a dead end. There is still the hunt for a bigger audience domestically and a demographic that appreciates the film just as much as he does.

“We are actively working towards making our film get a large audience and presence on a global stage and are thrilled with the day on day increase in domestic footfalls as well.”

Moreover, Homebound’s lack of profitability should be seen as a stepping stone. It had a lot of potential, and for future films of the same kind, Johar can learn from audience reception and his own mistakes to reach for a better box office run.

Even if the film hasn’t found the right kind of audience in theatres, there is still time for it to find a home in streaming platforms.
