Mental stress increases due to work pressure and family tension. Due to which the brain cannot function properly. In such a situation, mental health problems like depression and stress occur. If people do not pay attention to it in the initial days, they gradually become victims of these serious problems. Sometimes the situation becomes so bad that it can even prove fatal. In such a situation, World Mental Health Day is being celebrated across the world today on 10th October. In our fast-paced lives, the noise of the mind often remains unheard. Between work, studies, social media and constant hustle and bustle, we forget to connect with ourselves. This gradually takes the form of mental fatigue and stress. In such a situation, it is important that we take some small and effective steps, which will give peace to both our mind and heart.
The theme of this year 2025 is “Access to Services: Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies”, that is, access to mental health services has to be ensured in disasters or difficult situations, but have you ever wondered why this day is celebrated only on 10th October?
Why is this day celebrated only on 10th October?
In fact, in the year 1992, an organization called World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) started this day with the aim of spreading awareness among people about mental health. Initially there was no fixed theme of this day, the only objective was to tell the world that mental illness is not a matter of shame, but a condition which needs to be understood and handled in time. Gradually, a different theme started being decided every year, so that different aspects of mental health could be given attention. From then till today this day is celebrated on 10th October.
habits
- If you are glued to the screen all day, get out of the house, look at the sky, sit under the trees for a while or just take deep breaths in the open. The peace we get from nature is no less than a medicine. It reduces stress and also fills the mind with new energy. Research also shows that spending a few minutes every day amidst greenery improves mood.
- Sometimes happiness is hidden in very small things. Before the end of the day, write down three things you are grateful for. Like a friend’s smile, a stranger’s help or just a good meal… your perspective towards life will gradually change. It’s called a gratitude journal.
- Many times we ignore stress as lack of sleep, but in reality both are deeply to each other. Due to not getting enough sleep, the brain feels tired, due to which the mind becomes restless. Therefore, it is important to take 7-8 hours of sleep daily. Put your mobile away before sleeping and give your mind time to calm down.
- It is easy to lose yourself in the daily grind, but it is equally important to take time out for yourself. Be it reading a book, listening to a song, drawing or talking to friends… whatever brings peace to your heart, that is your self-care. Therefore, it is important that along with taking care of others, you also take care of yourself.
- If something is troubling you, do not suppress it in your heart. Talk openly to a trusted person. Share your feelings. This reduces mental pressure and finding solutions becomes easier. If needed, do not hesitate to seek help from a counselor or therapist.
