Railway Refund Rules for RAC: If your ticket is RAC and you don't want to travel, you can get a refund from the Railways. Use these methods to get a refund.
Railway Refund Rules for RAC: Millions of passengers travel by train every day across the country. Thousands of trains are operated by the Railways for these passengers. When traveling by train, most passengers prefer to book a reservation to ensure a seat. However, sometimes the ticket is not confirmed, and the status appears as RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation).
In such situations, passengers worry about whether they will be able to travel and whether they will get a refund if they have to cancel the ticket. The Railways have established rules for refunds and ticket cancellation in such situations. Let us explain how you can get a refund in such a situation.
How to get a refund on a RAC ticket?
If you book a train ticket and it's not confirmed and is stuck in RAC, you can continue your journey if you wish. However, you'll have to share a seat. If your ticket is RAC and you don't want to travel, you can get a refund from the Railways. Refund rules for RAC tickets are different.
To cancel your ticket, you must apply through the Railways' official website, the IRCTC app, or by visiting the ticket counter at the station. Generally, the cancellation deduction for RAC tickets is lower because the seat was not confirmed. Keep in mind that cancellation must be done before the journey begins, as refunds are not available after the journey begins.
Follow this process
To receive a refund, log in to the IRCTC website or mobile app, select the Cancel Ticket option, and cancel the RAC ticket. If you're canceling at the counter, bring your ticket and ID card to the counter. The refund will automatically be credited to your account after the ticket is cancelled.
Refunds typically arrive within 7-10 days. Furthermore, if the train is cancelled or the passenger's RAC ticket is confirmed, the amount of refund received after ticket cancellation may vary depending on the charges.
