Everyone uses a computer mouse. It's used to move the cursor from one place to another, select files, and scroll. But how would you feel if someone told you that your mouse was listening to your conversations? It might be hard to believe. However, a new technology has been developed called Mic-e-Mouse. This technology can use your mouse as a microphone and secretly listen to your conversations.
What is this technology? How does it work?
In a report by the Indian Express, researchers explained that the sensors in a computer mouse are very sensitive. These sensors can detect small vibrations, such as those caused by your voice. Researchers at the University of California found that by detecting these vibrations, the mouse can be transformed into a kind of microphone. This technology has been named 'Mic-e-Mouse'. This means that if a hacker were to use this technology, they could easily listen to your conversations through your mouse.
How can hackers do this?
For this technique to work, a hacker must first install a special program on your computer. This program collects vibration data from the mouse's sensor. This data is then cleaned through a special filter to reduce noise. This data is then fed into an artificial intelligence system, which attempts to decipher words. Researchers say that this technique can understand conversations with 61% accuracy. Numbers, such as credit card numbers and PINs, can be heard.
If this happens, conversations cannot be heard.
The mouse can only be used to spy on a hard, flat surface. If the mouse is on a mouse pad or cloth, it becomes less efficient at collecting data. Therefore, use a mouse pad with caution. If there is a lot of noise around, such as a TV or other sounds, it becomes more difficult to understand the conversation.
