Since childhood, you've probably been using the toilet daily to cleanse your bowels, but what if you're told you don't know the correct way to do so? Most people make some mistakes while using the toilet, which are not good for their health. Let's find out.

Most people's daily routine includes a morning bowel movement. This is a natural way to eliminate waste, toxins, and bacteria. Regular bowel movements also help prevent problems like constipation.

But what if you're told that even though you go to the toilet every day, you don't defecate properly? You might be surprised to read this, but most people don't perform this process correctly.

This means that you may be making many mistakes, knowingly or unknowingly, while defecating, which increase your risk of hemorrhoids. This can also worsen your constipation. An American doctor has listed three mistakes that should be avoided while defecating.

Why is it important to have a bowel movement?

Having a bowel movement is an important part of digesting the food we eat. Bowel movements are the body's way of getting rid of waste. They cleanse the colon of undigested food, waste, and harmful or excessive bacteria. Regular bowel movements also make room for new stool material in the colon.

Mistakes While Pooping 2

In a new post, Harvard-trained gastroenterologist Dr. Saurabh Sethi explains the three most common mistakes people make during bowel movements that can negatively impact their health. These mistakes include:

Mistake of pushing

Most people have a tendency to push harder and exert more force to expel stool. However, this strain can lead to hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and even rectal prolapse. Instead of straining, focus on deep breathing.

Mistakes of scrolling on the phone

Additionally, many people use their phones while using the toilet, but this mistake can increase your risk of hemorrhoids. Taking your phone to the toilet can make it take longer to defecate, and sitting for extended periods increases pressure on the rectal veins, which increases your risk of hemorrhoids. To avoid this, spend less than five minutes on the toilet.

The mistake of ignoring the request

Many times, people hold back the urge to defecate and then defecate later, but holding back can harden the stool and worsen constipation. So, don't ignore the urge to go to the toilet.

How often is it normal to defecate?

If you're having bowel movements more than once a day and think it's unusual, there's no official "normal" number of bowel movements. However, research suggests that having bowel movements between three times a day and three times a week indicates a healthy bowel movement.
