Bollywood star Deepika Padukone has made history by becoming India’s first-ever Mental Health Ambassador. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare announced the appointment on October 10, 2025, marking World Mental Health Day.

Deepika is 39 years old and founded The Live Love Laugh (LLL) Foundation in 2015. The foundation works to raise awareness about mental health, reduce stigma, and provide support to those in need.

As the Mental Health Ambassador, she will work closely with the government. Her role will include promoting mental health awareness, normalizing conversations about mental well-being, and helping make mental health services more accessible across India.

Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda said the collaboration will “spread awareness about mental health issues, make care a part of India’s public health system, and encourage people to seek help.”

Deepika expressed her gratitude for the honor. She said she is deeply honored to serve as the first ambassador and looks forward to strengthening India’s mental health framework. She also highlighted the progress the country has made under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in prioritizing mental well-being.

In her new role, Deepika will help design nationwide campaigns. She will also support initiatives like Tele-MANAS (Tele-Mental Health Support and Networking Across States). Her goal is to inspire people to seek timely help and encourage open discussions about mental health.

World Mental Health Day is observed every year on October 10. It is dedicated to raising awareness about mental health, emphasizing its importance, and promoting proactive care and support for all.
