Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton has died at the age of 79. Her family confirmed that she passed away in California on Saturday.

Diane Keaton was one of the most beloved and respected actresses in Hollywood. She was born in Los Angeles and began her career in the 1960s. She became world-famous in the 1970s after starring as Kay Adams-Corleone in The Godfather films. The movies are considered among the greatest in cinema history, and her role made her an international star.

In 1978, Keaton won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance in Annie Hall, directed by Woody Allen. The romantic comedy became a classic, and her quirky, natural style made her one of the most admired actresses of her time. She also won the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for the same role.

Over the next fifty years, Keaton starred in dozens of successful films. Her most popular movies include Father of the Bride, The First Wives Club, Something’s Gotta Give, The Family Stone, and Reds. She was known for her warm, funny, and emotional acting style that audiences around the world loved.

Keaton was also a director and producer. She directed the 1987 documentary Heaven and the 1995 film Unstrung Heroes, which was shown at the Cannes Film Festival. Her last directorial work was Hanging Up in 2000, in which she starred with Meg Ryan and Lisa Kudrow.

Apart from her acting, Diane Keaton was known for her unique fashion sense. She often wore suits, ties, and hats, setting a trend for women who admired her confident, unconventional style.

Many stars have shared emotional tributes to her. Actress Bette Midler, her co-star in The First Wives Club, said Keaton was “brilliant, beautiful, and completely original.” Goldie Hawn, another co-star, called her “a light that will never go out.” Actor Ben Stiller praised her as “one of the greatest film actors ever,” while comedian Steve Martin said their friendship was full of laughter and joy.

Diane Keaton never married but adopted two children — a daughter named Dexter and a son named Duke. In her autobiography Then Again, she wrote that her greatest happiness came from her family and the people she loved.

Keaton’s final film was Summer Camp in 2024, where she starred alongside Eugene Levy and Kathy Bates. Even in her later years, she continued to bring humor, warmth, and intelligence to her roles.
