Lalu family is once again in the headlines in the country's politics. Today on Monday, Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court framed serious charges of corruption, fraud and criminal conspiracy against RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in the IRCTC scam case. The court framed charges in the presence of the three, after which the family said in one voice, "We have not committed any crime. This is a political conspiracy, we will fight the case and bring out the truth."

Big shock to Lalu family

During the hearing, the court considered Lalu Prasad Yadav as the main accused in this case. Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav will be prosecuted under IPC section 120B (criminal conspiracy) and section 420 (cheating), while the provisions of Prevention of Corruption Act will also be applicable on Lalu Yadav. The court clearly said that this case is related to irregularities in the lease allotment of two hotels of IRCTC, which are from the time when Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister.

what happened in court today

When the hearing began on Monday, all three accused Lalu, Rabri and Tejashwi were personally present in the court. The judge read out the charges and asked whether they accepted the charges. On this all three said unanimously, “No, we have not committed any crime.” Rabri Devi said in the court, "False cases are being filed against us. This is a complete political conspiracy. We will fight the case." Tejashwi Yadav also said, "A wrong case has been imposed on us. We have faith in the court, the truth will come out."

What is the whole IRCTC scam case?

This matter pertains to the period between 2004 and 2009, when Lalu Yadav was the Railway Minister. According to the CBI investigation, during that period, the lease of two IRCTC hotels located in Patna and Ranchi was given to private companies by giving “undue benefits”. In return, benami properties and plots were allegedly transferred to companies linked to the Lalu family. CBI had filed a charge sheet in this case in 2017, after which the case is going on in Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court.
