Vegetables grown in a kitchen garden are not only fresh and flavorful but also rich in nutrients and free from harmful chemicals. However, one of the biggest challenges gardeners face is keeping these plants safe from insect attacks—especially leafy greens, which attract pests quickly. Instead of using chemical pesticides, you can rely on natural, eco-friendly solutions that protect your vegetables and keep them chemical-free.

1. Grow Pest-Repelling Plants Nearby
Planting herbs like basil, mint, aloe vera, thyme, or celery around your vegetable beds can naturally keep pests away. Their strong aroma repels insects while also adding beauty and utility to your garden. Regularly remove any infected leaves or buds to prevent the spread of pests.

2. Keep the Area Clean and Dry
Avoid excessive moisture around the plants, as it attracts insects and fungus. Sprinkle crushed eggshells or a layer of sand around the base of plants to deter pests. You can also use copper wire or tape around pots or beds to prevent slugs and snails from climbing up.

3. Make Natural Sprays with Onion and Garlic
Onion and garlic are highly effective natural insect repellents. Blend their juice and spray it on the leaves, or soak their peels in water for 10–15 days, strain it, and use the liquid as a spray. This homemade solution not only keeps insects away but also works as an organic fertilizer.

4. Use Neem as a Natural Insecticide
Neem is one of the best natural pest control agents. Grind dried neem leaves into powder and sprinkle it over your plants, or mix neem oil with water to create a spray. Regular application helps prevent most common garden pests.

5. Treat White Insects and Mold Naturally
If white mold-like insects appear on your plants (especially beans), burn cow dung cakes and sprinkle the cooled ash over the affected areas. Repeat this every two days until the infection clears. This traditional method helps restore plant health without any chemicals.
