TCS layoff update: In a significant business update after media reports covered the massive layoff at Tata groups Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) where it made a  significant change in its organizational structure TCS Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) has made a significant statement. In a statement on Thursday October 9 2025 TCS Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Sudip Kunnummal confirmed the news clarifying that the layoffs are specifically focused on middle- and senior-level management positions. Notably TCS had laid off approximately one percent of its workforce comprising approximately 6000 employees as part of its restructuring plan. The move  was seen as a part of the companys strategy to improve operational efficiency and adapt to changing business needs. According to him these were employees who could not be redeployed to other suitable roles within the company. To date we have laid off approximately one percent of our middle- and senior-level employees whom we were unable to redeploy to the right roles Mr. Kunnummal said. Additionally the CHRO categorically dismissed media reports that exaggerated layoff figures and called these exaggerated numbers false. What TCS Chief HR Officer said on recent layoff numbers? What we had communicated when we initiated this exercise is that we will do this with a lot of empathy and respect. And I want to say with conviction and confidence that we did that we created dedicated teams to have extreme empathetic conversations to be able to help them with that. We did some benchmark on severance packages for the people (who were affected) TCS Chief HR Officer was quoted as saying by a Livemint report. Basically it covers all the people who have been with our organisation who are entitled for the quarterly bonus except maybe for new joinees... but it covers practically every one... normally at the junior level we have been paying 100 per cent which is what will continue and for seniors we will pay a higher amount which is again based on the individual and unit performance the head HR added.
