Cuttack: Baroda recovered from a nervous start to end the second day of their Ranji Trophy Elite Group A match against Odisha on a more promising 127/2.
Having bowled out Odisha for 271 at Barabati Stadium on Thursday, Baroda limped to 37 in the 22nd over before losing two wickets in the space of six overs. Jyotsnil Singh was run out by substitute fielder Anil Parida before Shashwat Rawat was caught behind by Aashirwad Swain off Govinda Poddar.
From 51/2, opener Shivalik Sharma (75*) and Sukirt Pandey (32*) guided Baroda with a cautious, unbroken partnership of 76 runs. However, Odisha bowlers made it difficult for Baroda batters, who could score at a rate of a shade over 2 runs per over.
Odisha resumed this morning on 205/5 and lost their remaining five wickets for 66 runs. Rajesh Dhuper, who was on 76 overnight, progressed to 94 (254 balls, 7×4, 2×6) before being trapped leg-before wicket by Baroda’s most successful bowler Atit Sheth (4/67).
Once Dhuper and Aashirwad Swain’s 45-run collaboration ended, Odisha’s lower order quickly disintegrated.
