New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first, which proved to be completely correct. Batting first, Pakistan women’s team could score only 92 runs for 5 wickets in 25 overs.
Pakistan’s batting faltered
For Pakistan, Aliya Riaz scored the highest score of 28 runs, while Muniba Ali contributed 22 runs. Apart from this, no batsman could score big and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. On behalf of the team, Umaima Sohail (3), Sidra Amin (9), Natalia Pervez (10) and captain Fatima Sana (2) were out cheaply. Wicketkeeper Sidra Nawaz remained unbeaten along with Alia Riaz after scoring 6 runs. The team also added a total of 12 extra runs including 11 wide balls.
Great performance by New Zealand bowlers
New Zealand’s bowlers maintained pressure on Pakistan’s batsmen from the beginning. Lia Tahuhu bowled lethally and took 2 wickets for 20 runs in 6 overs. Whereas Jess Kerr, Eden Carson and Emilia Kerr took one wicket each.
Rain stopped the game, covers were put on the field
Suddenly it started raining after the 25th over, due to which the game had to be stopped. Initially some parts of the field were covered, but later in view of the increasing rain, covers were laid on the entire field. Light drizzle continued till 8:02 pm local time. The cut-off time of the match was fixed at 9:40 pm, but the weather did not improve.
The match ended without result
The match could not be carried forward due to continuous rain. Ultimately this match was declared ended without any result. However, looking at the game before the rain, New Zealand’s position looked strong.
