Paedophile rocker Ian Watkins sent a love letter to his secret fiancee the day before he was murdered in prison. He sent a vow telling his fiancee they "wouldn't be apart forever". He was then killed inside HMP Wakefield, aged 48, where he was serving 29 years behind bars after a number of child sex offences.

The former Lostprophets frontman had his throat allegedly cut by an inmate after prisoners came out of their cells. Paramedics rushed to the jail but were unable to save him.

It's been reported that he had been writing a birthday card to a fan who he had a relationship with and proposed to in front of his fellow inmates, before telling her to buy an engagement ring. The card arrived at her home on the day he was murdered.

The Sun reported that in the card Watkins wrote: "Duchess. Didn't think I'd forget your birthday did you. They won't keep us apart forever. Your Duke. IW."

She told the publication that Watkins "had a hold" over her and she tried to move on multiple times, but couldn't drop the thought of him.

One letter he had sent her also saw him describe a previous attack in 2023 where he was stabbed in the neck eight times and "almost died"; but he boasted that he's still "really hot" and was told he looked like "Grindelwald".

He added: "Whenever I get compared to Johnny Depp is always a good day, haha." But he had fear after the attack, telling her that he hated the weekends because the prisoners were unlocked all day, adding: "You never know what's going to happen".

His relationship was exposed in 2018 after officers caught him with a phone in his cell, which got him an extra 10 months tacked onto his sentence.

He had previously been sentenced to 29 years in prison after a number of child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a fan's baby daughter. He was sentenced in 2013.

Two prisoners, Rico Gedel, 25, and Samuel Dodsworth, 43, have been charged with his murder, with Gedel reportedly refusing to appear via video link during a hearing at Leeds Crown Court earlier this week.

It has been said that Watkins died of blood loss after the attack.
