New Delhi: The Pakistan cricket team has made a significant decision for the second Test against South Africa in Rawalpindi. The team management surprised everyone by giving veteran spinner Asif Afridi a Test debut. Afridis inclusion at the age of 38 is historic. The pitch is said to be favorable for spinners and thats why Pakistan has included Afridi as the third spinner. He will now work alongside Sajid Khan and Noman Ali to put pressure on the South African batsmen. Excellent Experience in First-Class Cricket Asif Afridi has extensive experience in first-class cricket. He has taken 198 wickets in 57 matches so far averaging 25.49. He has consistently performed well in domestic cricket but his career has also been marred by controversy. In 2022 the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) banned him for failing to report a timely offer of corrupt conduct. Afridi will now attempt to erase this stigma with his performance. The Oldest Bowler to Make History Asif Afridi made history by making his Test debut at the age of 38 years and 288 days. He became the oldest bowler to make his Test debut for a full ICC member team in the 21st century. Previously Ed Joyce (Ireland) made his Test debut in 2018 at the age of 39 years and 231 days. Englands James Southerton is the oldest player to make his Test debut at 49 years and 119 days. Miran Bakhsh (47 years and 284 days) remains the oldest debutant for Pakistan. A Golden Opportunity for Asif Afridi The Rawalpindi pitch is likely to have high turn which will favor spinners. This match presents a great opportunity for Asif Afridi to prove himself. If he bowls effectively in this match he could also get a chance on overseas tours where Noman Ali has been preferred so far. Story Highlights Pakistan handed 38-year-old Asif Afridi his debut in the second Test against South Africa. Afridi became the oldest bowler to make his Test debut in the 21st century.
