
Veteran actor Govardhan Asrani passed away on Diwali (October 20). He had been ill for some time. He is still remembered for his role as the jailer in Sholay. He entertained audiences with roles in films like Mere Apne Bawarchi Abhimaan Chupke Chupke Chhoti Si Baat Bhool Bhulaiyaa Bunty Aur Babli 2 Welcome and All the Best. Asrani leaves behind his wife Manju. Who is Manju Asrani? Manju Asrani (formerly Bansal) was once a part of the film industry. She worked extensively in the 70s and 80s. Asrani and Manju first met on the sets of the films Aaj Ki Taaza Khabar and Namak Haram. They spoke and felt an immediate connection driven by their love for cinema. Gradually they fell in love and married. They remained together throughout their lives. Manju worked in several Hindi films including Kabila Udhar Ka Sindoor Tapsa Chandi Sona and Chor Sipahi. After establishing herself in acting Manju decided to work behind the camera. In 1990 she tried her luck at direction. She directed the 1995 film Maa Ki Mamta. Manju Maintains a Low Profile She puts her family before her career and fame. Years ago Manju left showbiz and has always supported her husband Asranis career. She prefers to maintain a low profile. She is not seen at public events or award shows. Her husband Asrani also preferred to stay away from the limelight. Both were happy in their personal space. According to reports the couple does not have any children. However some reports also claim that they have a son named Naveen Asrani. However neither Manju nor Asrani ever confirmed this. Asrani’s Legacy and Fans’ Tribute Speaking of Asrani he won the hearts of fans with his comic roles. Asrani was stellar in his portrayal of the jailer in the film Sholay. Fans are bidding him farewell with tearful eyes on social media. Although he is no longer with us he will always remain alive in the minds of his fans for his powerful on-screen portrayals.
