Mumbai Famous Bollywood comedian and actor Asraani has passed away at the age of 84. He was in the hospital for the last five days. The full name of Bollywood’s evergreen comedian Asrani was Govardhan Asrani.

Born on 1 January 1941 in Jaipur, Asrani started his career in the 1960s and has worked in more than 400 films. His comic timing and unique style make him an unmatched star of Bollywood. His role of ‘British era jailer’ in ‘Sholay’ still makes the audience laugh.
Asrani’s manager Babubhai Thiba said that Asrani died today at Juhu’s Arogya Nidhi Hospital. His last rites were also performed this evening at Shastri Nagar crematorium in Santa Cruz West. Only his family members and close people were present on this occasion.
After Asrani did his early education from St. Xavier’s School, Jaipur, he went to Rajasthan College for graduation. After completing his studies, Asrani worked as a radio artist. Asrani’s wife is Manju Bansal Irani. Asrani has appeared in many films with his wife. Asrani had also tried his hand in politics. He took membership of Congress Party in the year 2004. He also participated actively in the party during the Lok Sabha elections.

It was not easy for Asrani to establish a foothold in Bollywood. After a lot of struggle, Asrani debuted with Jaya Bhaduri starrer film ‘Guddi’. The film was a hit and Asrani was also well liked in the film, but even after this his struggle did not end.
Asrani had told in an interview that people did not consider him a commercial actor and Gulzar was also included among those people. He had told, ‘Gulzar sahib had said no no…he did not consider me a commercial actor…he said I have a strange face, but when he showed his hands in acting, he never got a chance to look back.
His memorable films include Trysh (1973), Bawarchi (1972), Chupke Chupke (1975), Chhoti Si Baat (1975) and Sholay (1975). Of course Asrani is no longer in this world. But he will always be alive with his characters.
