How to prepare cow dung

Use clean and fresh cow dung. If the cow dung is a little dry, add some water to make it soft and smooth. It may be beneficial to wear gloves to avoid odor. You can also add some clay to it to make shapes easily.

First of all, clean the courtyard or any open space thoroughly. Then make a small mountain from cow dung—this will be your Govardhan Parvat. Around the mountain, you can also build cows, calves, trees and small huts. Install a small idol or figure of Lord Krishna in the middle or on top of the mountain. Decorate the entire Govardhan with flowers, garlands, colorful powder, sugar products (like kheel and batasha) and small lamps.

When is Govardhan Puja in 2025?

According to the Hindu calendar, Govardhan Puja is celebrated on the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month. In 2025, this date falls on Wednesday, October 22. Pratipada Tithi will start from the evening of October 21, but the main puja will take place on October 22.
