Cyclone Tracker: In view of the cyclone, the Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for several districts of Odisha on Tuesday and Wednesday. The IMD said that it is likely to turn into a low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal region during the next 36 hours. Due to its effect, light to moderate rain may occur in Odisha. By 8:30 am on Wednesday, there is a possibility of thundershowers with strong winds of 30 to 40 kmph at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
Odisha is likely to receive rainfall for the next seven days.
Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, said, “A low-pressure area has formed over the southwest Bay of Bengal and is expected to intensify into a depression by Wednesday afternoon and move towards the coasts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and South Andhra Pradesh. This system is unlikely to have a direct impact on Odisha, but rainfall activity is likely to occur over the state for the next seven days.”
Rainfall expected from October 22nd to 27th
Due to a low-pressure area and a cyclone, heavy rainfall is expected in many places in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from October 22nd to 27th, and in Odisha on October 25th and 26th. Thunderstorms are also expected along with the rain.
