Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has launched an investigation into a sudden loss of cabin pressure aboard Malaysia Airlines flight MH2742 on Oct. 21, which left passengers shaken.

During the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sarawak, the aircraft experienced a sudden cabin pressure issue mid-flight, The Star reported.

The flight crew initiated a controlled descent and deployed oxygen masks in accordance with standard safety protocols.

The aircraft landed safely at Bintulu Airport at 10:31 a.m., with no injuries reported.

The incident gained public attention after one passenger, named Abdul Jalil Bujang, shared the experience on Facebook, describing the moment the aircraft reportedly lost cabin pressure mid-flight, The Borneo Post reported.

According to his post, the incident occurred about two hours into the flight, when passengers heard “strange noises” before oxygen masks dropped from the overhead compartments.

“Although flight attendants always brief passengers on how to use safety equipment, most of us take it lightly. But during the emergency, it was chaotic. The oxygen mask near us got tangled and had to be shared among three passengers,” he recalled.

The carrier said has issued a statement, saying: “Malaysia Airlines sincerely apologizes for the disruption to our passengers’ travel plans.”

MAG added that the safety and well-being of passengers and crew remain the airline’s top priority, and that a thorough review is underway to determine the cause and prevent a recurrence.
