NEW DELHI: The Sydney Cricket Ground has long been a happy hunting ground for Rohit Sharma, and it could not have been a better moment for the ‘Hitman’ to etch his name in the record books. The former captain became only the second Indian batsman to score 2,500 ODI runs against Australia.

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar sits atop the list with 3,077 runs in 71 matches, including nine hundreds and 15 fifties. Rohit reached the milestone in just his 49th match against Australia.

Rohit also achieved another milestone, becoming the latest Indian to take 100 catches in ODIs. He now joins an elite group of Indian fielders, including Virat Kohli (163), Mohammad Azharuddin (156), Sachin Tendulkar (140), Rahul Dravid (124), and Suresh Raina (102).

At SCG, Rohit boasts an average that is significantly higher than his career norm. His numbers at this iconic Australian venue highlight his ability to master the conditions and put up big scores.

Beofre this match, Rohit has enjoyed impressive success in ODIs, scoring 333 runs in five innings at an average of 66.60 and a strike rate of 88.80. His record includes one century and two fifties, with a highest score of 133, highlighting his consistency and comfort at the venue.

Earlier, Pacer Harshit Rana grabbed four wickets and spinner Washington Sundar two as India bundled out Australia for 236 in 46.4 overs in the third and final ODI.

Sundar (2/44) dismissed Matthew Short (30 off 41 balls) and Matt Renshaw (56 off 58 balls) after Mohammed Siraj (1/24) and Axar Patel (1/18) had shown the way by getting rid of openers Travis Head (29 runs) and Mitchell Marsh (41 runs) respectively.
