After the death of 17-year-old Dalit teenager Aniket in Greater Noida, Congress, Samajwadi Party and Bhim Army tried to create a poor political narrative on social media by calling it “Dalit vs upper caste” violence. But according to the police investigation and FIR, all the accused belong to the Meena community, which falls in the Scheduled Tribe category, and not from any “upper” caste.
On October 25, Congress national spokesperson Dr. Shama Mohammed wrote on
SP’s media cell also posted claiming that boys from ‘Thakur community’ attacked Dalit Aniket. However, the word “Thakur” was nowhere in the screenshot of the news shared in the post.

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad also stoked class tension by using the word “Jatankwadi” in his post.
According to police records, this incident took place on the night of 15 October. The FIR was registered on October 17 on the complaint of Aniket’s uncle Momchand. In this case, Yamuna Expressway police station registered a case against 7 named and 10-12 unidentified people.
It was alleged in the complaint that several people including Yuvraj, Jeetu, Rachit, Bharat, Ankit, Pawan and Suneet arrived with sticks and iron rods and attacked Aniket and his companions while abusing caste based abuses. Aniket suffered serious head injuries and was admitted to hospital, where he died on 24 October. Police investigation revealed that all the accused belong to the Meena community, which comes under the Scheduled Tribe category. That is, the political narrative created about “upper caste” was completely false.
On October 19, the police arrested two accused Yuvraj Meena and Jitu Meena and sent them to jail. On October 24, two more accused, Rachit and Ankit, were also arrested. The search for the remaining accused is ongoing. ACP Sarthak Sengar said that the deceased and the accused had quarreled with each other earlier also and this was not a new dispute.
BJP MLA Dhirendra Singh met the deceased family and informed Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about the incident. The Chief Minister spoke to the family on phone and assured justice. At the same time, local leaders of BSP and SP also met the family members.
While opposition parties publicized the incident as Dalit versus upper caste violence, police documents and investigation show that the accused are from Scheduled Tribes. This kind of political confusion not only increases social tension but also affects the actual justice process. This is the truth in this incident of Greater Noida.
