In a major relief for farmers across Madhya Pradesh, the state government has rolled out a new electricity scheme allowing agricultural and household consumers to get legal power connections for just ₹5. The initiative, launched under the Sahaj Saral Yojana, aims to ensure affordable, accessible, and uninterrupted electricity supply to rural households and farming communities.

A Step Toward Empowering Rural Farmers

The Madhya Pradesh Central Power Distribution Company Limited (MPCPDCL) has implemented this scheme as per the directives of the state government. The move is expected to benefit thousands of farmers, particularly those relying on temporary electricity connections during the Rabi season.

According to official data, in Betul district alone, over 13,000 new connections have already been issued under this initiative—comprising 7,388 agricultural pump connections and 5,703 domestic connections. The program has been designed to make the process of obtaining a permanent electricity connection quicker, simpler, and more transparent.

Digital Process for Easy Applications

To make the process seamless, farmers can now apply digitally through the company’s official website or by visiting the nearest Common Service Center (CSC). The company’s management stated that applications from farmers whose fields are located near existing power lines are being prioritized to speed up the connection process. This not only reduces waiting time but also ensures that electricity access reaches remote farming areas without unnecessary delays.

Strengthening Power Supply Ahead of Rabi Season

The government’s primary goal is to ensure that farmers do not face power shortages during the upcoming Rabi cultivation period. To achieve this, authorities have accelerated the repair and maintenance of damaged poles and power lines across various districts. The energy department is also expanding supply from nearby substations to guarantee an uninterrupted power flow for agricultural operations.

Officials have further clarified that strict action will be taken against individuals or entities using unauthorized electricity. Under Section 135 of the Electricity Act, 2003, offenders may face heavy fines, legal prosecution, and even imprisonment. The state aims to curb power theft and promote lawful usage through such measures.

Legal Security and Economic Support for Farmers

This initiative offers farmers both financial relief and legal protection, addressing two key challenges that rural electricity users often face. With legitimate connections available at a minimal cost, farmers can now operate irrigation pumps and other farm equipment more efficiently, leading to better crop output and reduced dependency on illegal or makeshift power sources.

Experts believe the scheme will significantly contribute to rural development, as access to reliable electricity is essential for modern farming, irrigation, and overall economic progress in villages. The program aligns with the government’s broader vision to strengthen the rural economy and ensure energy security for every household.

Government’s Message to Farmers

Authorities have urged farmers to take full advantage of this opportunity by applying for a valid electricity connection as soon as possible. Early registration will not only ensure smooth processing but also help farmers avoid any potential legal or administrative complications.

With the Sahaj Saral Yojana, Madhya Pradesh is setting an example in promoting sustainable agricultural growth through affordable power access—turning what was once a major challenge into an achievable goal for every farmer in the state.
