According to Znews, China Times reported that she appeared on an episode of the reality show “The Blooming Journey 2.” When asked why her Mandarin pronunciation is unusual, she said it might be due to her upbringing.

Her paternal grandparents were hearing-impaired, and so she learned to communicate with them using sign language. Many of her relatives had a habit of speaking loudly, which also shaped her speech patterns.

She also developed the habit of nodding frequently to show she understood her grandparents. With her father often away, she took on the responsibility of caring for them from a young age.

Despite the hardships, she never felt burdened and instead cherished and valued that period of her life.

Cheung herself had partial hearing loss in one ear.

After the episode aired, many netizens expressed admiration and sympathy for her perseverance.

On YouTube one said: “I think Cecilia Cheung is really great! She struggles a bit to express herself, and it pains me to see her like that.”

Another wrote: “It’s incredible that she cared for her grandparents at such a young age.”

Last month Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Jing revealed that Cheung was gradually stepping back from the entertainment industry due to health issues, focusing instead on variety shows and commercial appearances. The actress has frequently faced health problems and was once hospitalized for severe abdominal pain, he said.

He said her early life had been far from easy. When she was sent to study in Australia, she and her sister were so poor they had to share a single pack of instant noodles after their family stopped sending money and were forced to take on multiple part-time jobs to make ends meet.

Cheung, 45, rose to fame in 1998 after starring in a television commercial for lemon tea, which led to her breakout role in Stephen Chow’s 1999 film “King of Comedy.” Her portrayal of a call girl in the box office hit propelled her into the spotlight and launched a successful career.

Her personal life has also been widely covered. In 2006 she married Hong Kong star Nicholas Tse, and they divorced five years later.

She had two sons with Tse and later gave birth to a third, but has not revealed the father’s identity.
