Recently, a cybersecurity platform revealed a major data breach, exposing approximately 183 million email accounts and their passwords online. This information was shared by the cybersecurity platform Have I Been Pwned. According to the report, this data was stolen from Google's servers in April 2025, not through direct hacking, but through an infostealer malware attack. Let's explore this in detail...

Data Stolen by Malware
According to the information, on October 21, 2025, HIBP added a dataset called Synthient Stealer Log Threat Data, which contains approximately 183 million unique email addresses and their passwords. This data was collected by Synthient LLC and includes a large number of Gmail users.

HIBP's founder stated that this data was stolen through infostealer malware that infiltrated various devices. This type of malware can steal not only login credentials but also browser cookies and authentication tokens, allowing hackers to access your account even without a password.

How to find out if your account has been hacked
You can easily check if your email has been leaked. All you need to do is visit https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and enter your Gmail ID. If your details have been leaked, the website will notify you.

How to secure your Gmail account?
First, create a new, strong password that includes uppercase letters (A-Z), lowercase letters (a-z), numbers, and special characters.
Next, check for unknown devices, apps, and activity using Google's Security Checkup service.
Use not just OTPs, but also a hardware security key or passkey.
