Asked for break during periods, supervisor said- take off clothes and get photographed; There was panic in the university!

There was a huge uproar between women sanitation workers and officials at Maharishi Dayanand University (MDU) in Rohtak, Haryana on Tuesday. Actually, two female sanitation workers had asked for a break from the supervisor citing ill health due to menstruation.

But the supervisor allegedly asked her to take off her clothes and get checked for her menstruation. This enraged the women and they created a ruckus.

Support of students, action against supervisor

Seeing the growing controversy, student organizations also stood shoulder to shoulder with the sanitation workers. He demanded immediate suspension of the accused. The pressure on the university administration increased so much that the supervisor was hurriedly removed.

Demand to remove clothes and photograph in the name of investigation

The whole ruckus started when two female sanitation workers told that they wanted to rest for some time due to menstruation. When I talked to the supervisor, instead of understanding, he became rude. It is alleged that through a female security personnel, he asked the cleaners to take off their clothes and get them checked. When the women refused, attempts were made to force them. There was even talk of taking off clothes and getting photographs taken for testing. After this the rest of the sanitation workers also united and a ruckus started.

Registrar’s promise: Will not spare the culprits

As the uproar increased, Registrar KK Gupta himself reached the spot. He said that there will be a thorough investigation into this wrongdoing done to women in the university. At present the supervisor has been removed and the culprit will not be spared. If necessary, a case will also be registered under SC/ST Act. Such behavior towards women will not be tolerated at all. However, till now neither the sanitation workers nor the administration has lodged a complaint with the police.
