Difference in lifestyle of India and Japan
Both India and Japan are known for their rich culture and traditions. However, an interesting fact is that the average life expectancy of people in Japan is about 13 to 15 years higher than that of India. According to the World Population Review, in Japan it is 84.8 years, while in India it is about 70.4 years. The question arises why this is so.
Japanese people mainly use water to cook their food. Boiling, steaming and slow cooking are part of their food, which preserves the nutrients and makes the food light and easy to digest. In contrast, fried and oily foods are more prevalent in India, which have negative effects on the heart and digestive system in the long run.
Their diet is quite different from that of Indians. The Japanese diet includes fish, green vegetables, and fermented foods such as miso and pickles, which provide the body with omega-3 fatty acids and beneficial bacteria, which support heart and kidney health. On the other hand, the trend of packaged and processed foods is increasing rapidly in India, due to which the tradition of balanced diet is gradually ending.
Japanese people are also conscious about the quantity of food. Their “Hara Hachi Bu” tradition means that they eat until their stomach is 80 percent full. This avoids overeating and does not put extra pressure on the body. India also had the habit of eating a balanced diet earlier, but now due to the hectic lifestyle this habit has almost disappeared.
Physical activities are also an important part of their lives. Walking, cycling and group activities are common there, which helps keep their bodies strong even as they age. A recent study shows that almost half of India’s adult population does not follow the World Health Organization’s physical activity guidelines.
Meal timing and sleep also play an important role. People in Japan eat early and light dinners, which promotes good sleep and a healthy metabolism. In India, most families eat late and heavy meals, which affects the digestive system and disrupts sleep.
In fact, longevity is not just a matter of luck. This is the result of our daily habits. Japanese people live a disciplined and balanced life. Their small habits like eating light food, sleeping on time and being active regularly are the real secrets of their long and healthy life.
