New Delhi: Using air conditioner (AC) as a room heater is a slightly different thing, because the main purpose of AC is to cool the room. But if you have ‘heat’ or ‘heating mode’ in your AC, you can also use it to generate heat. This can also prove to be a good way to save your money. With this simple method, your heating bill can be reduced by 40 percent compared to traditional room heaters.

Heating mode must be activated

First of all you have to activate the heating mode of the air conditioner (AC). Most modern air conditioners have a ‘heat’ or ‘heating mode’. By turning on this mode the AC will start working to heat the room. Let us also tell you that this feature is available in those ACs which have reverse cycling or heat pump technology.

 Temperature must be set

To use the air conditioner as a room heater during winter, you have to set the temperature. Set the AC’s thermostat to an appropriate heat setting. Generally 24-26 degree Celsius is comfortable to keep the room warm. At the same time, you will have to change the direction of the vent. Set the vent in such a way that the air can circulate evenly inside the room.

Good option for small rooms

During this time, it is also important to keep in mind the size and insulation of the room. If your room is very large, using the AC solely for heating will not provide as much effective heat as a simple heater. This can be a good option for small rooms. You also need to know that the AC should be cleaned regularly, because a dirty AC is not able to provide heat properly.
