Shimla (PC Lohmi): Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu informed that the Public Works Department has prepared a collection of all the acts, rules, infrastructure, guidelines and parameters of the last 50 years, which will be made easily available to the general public.

Increase in transparency and accountability

He said that this document will be important in enhancing transparency, accountability and accessibility for the government, contractors and other stakeholders including executing agencies. This will help in monitoring corruption. Through this initiative, people will not have to visit various government offices to get important information and documents to the works of the Public Works Department. It covers all the work areas of the department like civil, electrical, mechanical, architectural wing etc. along with financial aspects.

Importance of digitalization and efficiency

The Chief Minister said that there is a need to take comprehensive and user-friendly steps to promote transparency, efficiency and digitalization in governance. Collection of all important Acts, Rules and Guidelines will save time and improve public service delivery, bringing the departmental functioning in line with modern administrative requirements.

Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh said that the state government has compiled various acts, rules and norms to road construction, safety and development. Its objective is to provide better, safe and accessible facilities to the public.

Secretary Public Works Dr. Abhishek Jain said on Saturday evening that this compilation will prove to be a useful guide for the officials of the Public Works Department. Through this, they will be able to effectively implement the plans of public service works with better skills, and information to the acts, rules, guidelines and functioning of the department will be available to the public at one place.
