Gurudwara Gurusar Sahib
History of Gurudwara Gurusar Sahib: Guru Nanak Jayanti, the most important festival for Sikhism, will be celebrated on 5 November 2025. This day is celebrated as the birthday of the first Guru and founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji. On this occasion, we tell you about Gurusar Sahib, the Gurudwara associated with the ninth Guru of Sikhism, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, which is located in Handiya town of Barnala. Where the Guru Sahibans had promised to cure the skin diseases of the people of the area. This Gurdwara Sahib is under the Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee. Where there is a historical lake, in which Guru Sahib himself had bathed and had promised the people that all types of diseases of the person taking bath in it would be cured. Even after 350 years, devotees from India and abroad are reaching this historical lake to get relief from their troubles.
The place where Guru Teg Bahadur Ji touched his feet
Jaspal Singh, head granthi of Gurdwara Gurusar Sahib Patshahi ninth Handiya and storyteller Satpal Singh told that Guru Teg Bahadur Ji started the journey of spreading Sikhism from Sri Anandpur Sahib and came to Malwa region. He visited various places in Barnala district. After Moolowal, he also visited villages Sekha, Farwahi and Dhilwan.
History of Gurudwara Gurusar Sahib
Gurudwara Gurusar Sahib Patshahi Navi is built in Handiya, where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was seated. Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib came to this holy place and camped here. At that time, a terrible disease called Tapali (skin disease) was spreading in this village, due to which people were dying. Coming before the Satguru, the Sangat requested, “Maharaja, you are the incarnation of Guru Nanak, please have mercy.”
Guru Sahib sanctified the temple like this
After this, Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib, pointing towards the pond (now a pond) here, said that if the brother takes bath in this pond, all his diseases will be cured, but some people started objecting to this because Muslims of Katik caste lived nearby who used to do the work of skinning and their water used to fall in this pond. Due to which Guru Sahib, knowing his feelings, first took bath in the pond himself and then promised that now it has become sacred, everyone should take bath in it.
People come from all over the country and abroad
Head Granthi Jaspal Singh told that a large number of Sikh devotees come to this place from far and wide. At this place, Masya day is celebrated every month with great devotion and emotion. The management of this place is under Shiromani Gurdwara Management Committee Amritsar. Apart from Barnala district, devotees from different districts of Punjab and different states of the country and abroad come to this historical lake to get relief from their sufferings.
