On Friday, India commemorated the 150th anniversary of the national anthem "Vande Mataram" with a nationwide celebration inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi. During the event, PM Modi unveiled a special postage stamp and coin to mark this historic milestone.

The Prime Minister emphasized that "Vande Mataram" is far more than just words—it embodies a powerful resolution and inspires new courage for the future. He described the anthem as a mantra, an energy, and a dream that connects India’s past struggles to the aspirations of today and tomorrow. "Vande Mataram" serves as a prayer to Goddess Saraswati, boosts national self-confidence, and offers hope that no resolution is impossible to achieve.

PM Modi paid homage to the countless heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country, recognizing the anthem’s importance as a declaration of India’s independence and freedom from colonial rule. He referenced the literary significance of "Vande Mataram," noting how Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's "Anandamath," where the anthem originates, continues to inspire generations as a timeless symbol of India’s eternal spirit.

The nationwide celebrations will continue until November 7, 2026, aiming to inspire millions of Indians with renewed energy and patriotism.
