A Western drama series that some viewers have called the "best TV ever" is now available to watch for free on ITVx. The show tells the story of a Texas family across two different time periods, following a boy who is taken by Native Americans and later becomes a wealthy cattle and oil businessman. It first aired in 2017 and ran for two seasons.

The lead role is played by former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan. The series is based on a 2013 book by author Philipp Meyer and has a strong 86% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The show is called The Son. Brosnan plays Eli McCullough, who is kidnapped by Comanches in 1849 and raised by the tribe.

Years later, in 1915, he is a powerful businessman trying to protect his land and pass on his empire.

Many people have fallen in love with the series over the last few years, with some saying it ended far too soon.

One reviewer said: "I love Westerns in every form and this is some of the best TV ever. Pierce Brosnan is great in it."

Another added: "My husband and I stumbled upon this show and we really enjoyed watching it. It's one of the best Westerns."

A third wrote: "I love this show. It's perfect for binge watching as it's relatively short and you can't stop."

The Son follows three generations of the McCullough family and shows how Eli's choices affect his children and grandchildren.

Jacob Lofland plays the young version of Eli, renamed Tiehteti Taiboo by the Comanches.

Henry Garrett plays his son Pete, and Sydney Lucas plays his granddaughter Jeannie.

Other cast members include Paola Nunez, Carlos Bardem, and Zahn McClarnon. The show was filmed in Texas and originally aired on AMC in the US.

There are 20 episodes in total, each around 45 minutes long. Both seasons are now available to watch on ITVx with a free account.
