Australia’s premier fast bowler Pat Cummins has been appointed captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the third consecutive IPL season, the franchise announced on Monday. SRH confirmed the decision on its official X handle, sharing images of Cummins but withholding further details.
Cummins has been ruled out of the first Ashes Test in Perth due to a back injury, although he is expected to return in time for the second Test in Brisbane. In his absence, Steven Smith will lead Australia in the series opener against England on November 21, while the second Test begins on December 4.
Cummins first took charge of SRH ahead of the 2024 IPL season after the franchise secured him for a massive ₹20.50 crore at the auction, following Australia’s triumphs in the World Test Championship and the 2023 ODI World Cup. Before joining SRH, the star pacer had represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in previous IPL seasons.
