Moradabad News: Mayank Trigun, Senior Correspondent, Bhojpur. On suspicion of stealing a mobile phone, the hotel owner tortured the cleaning staff in a closed room so much that he became mentally broken and the very next day he committed suicide by jumping in front of a train. The most surprising thing is that the family kept visiting the police station for 18 days, but the police did not even register a case. Eventually the matter reached the SSP, only then a case was registered against the hotel owner Sanu for abetment to suicide. This incident remains a topic of discussion in the entire area.

Life and last night of deceased Ashok Kumar

37 year old Ashok Kumar, resident of Dungarpur village of Bhagatpur police station area, was the only earning person of his family. Wife Sarita, two daughters Sakshi (15), Sonakshi (13) and 9 year old son Anmol – the entire household was run on Ashok’s earnings. He used to work as a cleaner at Jubilee Hotel in Godhi Hamirpur of Bhojpur police station area.

On the evening of 31 October, a customer’s mobile went missing in the hotel. Hotel owner Sanu suspected Ashok without any proof. Sarita has written in her complaint that her husband had not stolen the mobile, yet Sanu locked him in a room and tortured him for hours. Beat up, abused, threatened.

Police also arrived, but handed over the employee to him.

Troubled by the torture, Sanu called the police. The team of Siraswan Doraha police post took Ashok. He was interrogated there too, but no information was given to the family. The most shocking thing – the person who had complained, the police handed over Ashok to the same hotel owner Sanu!

Ashok returned home around 12 o’clock in the night, but did not say anything. The next morning on November 1, he again left the house and never returned.

Ended life by getting hit by train

On November 2, the family came to know that a person had died after being hit by a train at 8.30 am on November 1 near Jalalpur Halt. After reaching the post-mortem house, Sarita and her family members saw the body and recognized it as Ashok. After the funeral, when the family went back to the hotel, the whole truth came out.

Ashok’s brother Dixit Kumar said, “My brother was so devastated that he did not tell anything when he came home. The next day he quietly left and jumped in front of a train. The hotel owner tortured him so much that he lost the will to live.”

Police did not listen to police station for 18 days

After Ashok’s death, the family kept making frequent rounds of Bhojpur and Bhagatpur police stations. Sarita kept crying and pleading again and again, but the police flatly refused to register the case. Ultimately the family complained to SSP Satpal Antil. Then, after 18 days, on Sarita’s complaint, a case was registered against hotel owner Sanu under section 306 of IPC (abetment of suicide).

Police’s side: “Investigation is ongoing”

SP Dehat Kunwar Akash Singh said, “Ashok Kumar was brought to the police station for questioning, his statement was recorded and then he was sent home. Now a case has been registered on the complaint of the family members. Whatever facts emerge in the investigation, action will be taken on the basis of the same.”
