A Fusion of Art, Nature & Marine Life
Ocean Gaia is installed just off the coast of Tokunoshima, Japan, very close to the shoreline. Its shallow coral reef system works like a barrier surrounded by nature. It protects the sculpture from the strong currents of the ocean. The sculpture is designed in a thoughtful way, with its perforated edges allowing marine life to enter, which turns it into a living habitat. The sand circles made by the Japanese white-spotted pufferfish and the mountain range of Tokunoshima, whose silhouette is said to resemble a pregnant woman. These are the piece that reflects themes of renewal and continuity making the ocean its maternal force.
