Malaysian rapper Namewee seeks part-time work after projects cancelled amid Taiwanese influencer murder probe

Rapper Namewee announced he is looking for part-time jobs after all his work commitments through the end of 2026 were cancelled, following his arrest in connection to the death of Taiwanese influencer Iris Hsieh.

According to The Starthe 42-year-old artist, who was born Wee Meng Chee, wrote in an Instagram post on Monday that the case remains under investigation and the final report could take several months to complete. With his professional engagements suspended, Namewee said he is open to temporary work and is flexible about pay.

“I can make fried chicken cutlets, fried rice, curry, wash pots and even install iron bars,” he wrote. “If there’s something I don’t know, I can learn. Any income is fine.”

The rapper also revealed he is seeking sponsors for his upcoming Lunar New Year song after his previous sponsor withdrew, reportedly due to his arrest.

“If the music video gets less than 10 million views, half the sponsorship amount will be refunded,” he said. “If something goes wrong before Lunar New Year, a full refund will be given.”

According to The Straits TimesHsieh was found unconscious in a bathtub at a hotel in Malaysia on Oct. 22. Investigators determined that Namewee was the last person seen with her, and the rapper later told police that they had been discussing a video project together.

Hsieh’s death was initially treated as sudden, but the case was later reclassified as a murder investigation. Namewee was detained on Nov. 5 in connection with the probe and released nine days later on police bail. On Nov. 12, an attorney said there was no evidence linking Namewee to Hsieh’s death.
