Bihar election results shook the alliance

INDIA block had a very weak performance in the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
Of the 243 seats, the NDA won 202 seats, while the RJD-Congress grand alliance was reduced to only 35 seats.
The condition of Congress was even worse, which raises serious questions on the strategy of the alliance.

Election experts say that disagreements over seat distribution, leadership confusion and lack of a clear election plan weakened the remaining unity. The popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is considered to be the main reason for NDA’s victory.

Background of INDIA alliance

INDIA alliance (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) was formed in the year 2023, whose objective was not only to challenge BJP electorally but also to present a strong alternative politics. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, this alliance performed better than expected by winning 234 seats, while the BJP was reduced to 240 seats and the NDA remained in majority with 293 seats. The strength of the INDIA block had given a new identity to the opposition, but after the latest results of Bihar elections, questions have started being raised on its direction and political future.
